Deep tissue sculpting is basically what it sounds like. It is a system of body work that releases pain held deeply within, like muscle tension, from chronic pain, back pain and sciatic problems, for instance. This form of body work uses slow steady compressions so that it can release the deep layers of tissue. Unlike regular massage sessions that massage your whole back, a deep tissue massage usually focuses on one or two specific points that the client has asked the practitioner to work on. A deep tissue massage is done without oil or lotion. But, if it is done in conjunction with other techniques then oils or lotions may be applied.

It is as if the muscles and fascia are stuck in the injured or painful position. So, the purpose of

a session is to un-stick the muscle fibers from each other and re-educate them so that they can function in their fullest capacity.

Your practitioner while using this technique may use their fingers, thumbs, palms and even elbows to slowly follow a tension release. Deep tissue sculpting does not mean that they apply more pressure;it simply means that they apply the pressure deeply and as the muscles and fascia become less tense, then more pressure may be applied. It is important to maintain open communication throughout the session so that the Practitioner does not apply to much pressure making it even more painful. Only you can tell if more or less pressure is needed. It is not uncommon to be sore for several days after the treatment but in a good way. It is very important that you drink 6 – 8 glasses of water over the next few days to rinse out all the toxins that have been released by the deep tissue sculpting session.
