Reflexology is a method where pressure is applied to specific reflex points in the feet, hands or ears. This brings about relaxation, improved circulation, can alleviate stress and tension, and reduce pain and illness naturally. These reflex points correspond with every part, gland and organ throughout the body. Putting pressure on these points brings health through energetic pathways in the body. To explain it scientifically, the pressure applied to the reflex points causes signals to flow through the body and balances out the nervous system and endorphin chemicals are released to relieve stress and pain.

The history of reflexology dates all the way back to a time in Egypt’s sixth dynasty, thousands of years ago. The North American Native people have used reflexology as a healing therapy for generations. It is thought that the Inca civilization passed down reflexology. In Europe, during the 1500’s, the working class, upper class, and even royalty, received pressure treatment in the form of reflexology to cure their ills. In the nineteenth century, Russian Vladimir M. Bekhterev was noted for using reflexology as a component of his work in the field of psychology.

There have been several studies conducted to discover the benefits of reflexology. The National Cancer Institute and the National Institutes for Health discovered that reflexology has reduced pain and psychological symptoms and may have palliative benefits in the care of people with cancer. Neurological studies have illustrated how nerve endings in the feet create a dialogue throughout the whole body thus benefiting from reflexology.

Reflexology is used by massage therapists, physical therapists and chiropractors just to name a few. The Jesse James Method incorporates Reflexology methods in all of our body work sessions. We also offer sessions with just reflexology alone. We strive to be co-creators with our clients so as to provide them with the information so that they can be part of their bodies healing process.
